Abstract
Highway accidents are a global concern, resulting in fatalities, traffic congestion, and economic expenses. To address this issue, an automated system is presented that uses OpenCV, image processing, and Python to detect accidents in real time using highway camera data. The technology examines video frames to detect patterns such as abrupt stops, unusual movements, and vehicle crashes. It uses visual processing techniques to discern between typical traffic flow and potential accident scenarios. When an accident is identified, an alarm is generated and forwarded to authorities, allowing for faster emergency response and fewer secondary mishaps. This scalable, low-cost approach for real-time accident detection on roads uses widely available hardware and open-source technologies. Published in the IJCT JOURNAL, this study offers low publication fees and fast publication services, contributing to the high impact factor of the journal.
